Skills Survey for Mining in Malawi

Abstract

Mining industry in Malawi is growing far above all sectors of the economy. This is happening at a time when Malawi as a nation has experienced one of the biggest shumps in the economy and also when Malawi amidst the anit-smoking campaign, is looking for an alternative source of revenue. Though, such is a case, mining in Malawi still remains underdeveloped with a big small scale mining sector. Amidst the bottlenecks of the same industry is that government has been quiet on developing training for those in the mining sector for so long since independence. The realization that mining has a potential to be a driver of the economy has therefore led to the development of the training for the same. However, though such is the case, the development of the training has started with the high level skills leaving the very skills that work in the mines. This report therefore presents skills at all levels and recommends priorities for the development of the needed in mining
